The Stupidest Love…Ever.

Here, I said it, God is the most stupid lover of all time.

Hold up now 🙋 let me finish.

Think about it for a second: if our lives were a movie, and we were watching how God continually sacrificed himself for us — ultimately leading to his death — all in the name of love, would we not call him “Stupid?”

I remember a Twitter thread I did on the irrationality of love after seeing the series “You Don’t Know Me” on Netflix.

There is no logic in love — amorous love is stupid, and familial love is even more stupid.

The stupidest love of all though, has to be Divine love (better known as Agapé).

How else would you explain it — that the One whom offense was committed against, was also the one who made a way for the atonement of the offense — past, present and future — forgiven, and never to be remembered?

Now that I think of it, perhaps love was originally made to be stupid, or perhaps our definition of stupidity as it concerns love is warped. Perchance what we call stupidity is trust; it’s a bit like investing I suppose, even after doing all the DD, there are a thousand and one things that can go wrong.

But this isn’t about business or investment, it is about love.

Trust is a key component in love. It is what gives you faith that the person you love is worth the effort. But this trust is built over time, it is wisdom to test the waters and see if this step is worth taking — this is why we date, I guess. There is never a guarantee that it will last. Faith can be misplaced and then we go through heartbreak (again, stupid).

But divine love takes this stupidity to a whole new level: when we were not even worth it at all, when we were the worst of the worst, God decided that it was a good thing to show us His love. He decided to trust us completely, that if he gave us all of His love at once, we would accept, experience, and reciprocate it.

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.”
- Roms. 5:6 NLT

Now, if this isn’t some loony behavior, I don’t know what is.

Whichever way you look at it, God is still the most foolish lover of all time. (Go to court if you disagree).

But I’m not complaining.

The recklessness of this love has saved a lot of people, and it still is. We who have received it, and experienced it to the fullest, know it is not foolish at all, on the contrary, it is “the power of God unto the salvation of all men.”

I wish for one that all men would love like this — but that would be stupid, wouldn’t it?

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them...”

- I Cor. 2:14 NKJV

It is a love we do not deserve, but we got it anyway (and without doing zilch for it too. Wow!).

“But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Rom. 5:8 NLT

But here comes the catch (Yes, there is one duh! 🙄😁).

We who have received this love, experienced it, and have found it to be the best thing ever; we are tasked to go tell others how to enter into this stupid love.

We have become matchmakers (if you will) between God and men. We have become proponents of this love, announcing its veracity to the world. It is a Goodnews indeed! Hence our job is to herald it to the world (starting from where you are).

“Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men…. He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.”

- 2Cor. 5:11, 19–20 BSB.

It is criminal to have experienced this love and then keep it to yourself.

If you are yet to experience this love, let me welcome you into it now. It’s easy. You do not have to do anything, you do not have to plan an expensive date, no romantic getaway, no buying drinks for friends, and friends of friends — no atonement whatsoever, he has all of it covered.

All you have to do is to respond back to him in faith.

He first of all had faith in us by offering us all of his love, all you have to do is respond back in faith by accepting his love. You do this by believing that Jesus died, was buried and resurrected for your salvation.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
- Roms. 5:1 NKJV

You are a new person now. It is that easy.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

- 2 Cor. 5:17 NLT

I still think it is a very stupid love, but hey, who am I to complain.

It is this love that made me, and I wish above all things that it makes you too.

Cheers!
